Echoes

After listening to the song 'Echoes' off the David Gilmour~Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD, I have a whole new appreciation for the song.
'Echoes' is off the Meddle CD. I've been listening to it. I think it sounds bad-ass off the DVD. Much more fuller, but it doesn't sound bad off Meddle either.
The middle section of the song where it goes all quiet and the weird noises start is really cool. It's like on the edge of space of something.
There is a riff that goes threw it that reminds me of Phantom of the Opera. It's got a lovely floaty feeling to it. Shades of light and dark.
It's hard for me not to love anything by Floyd. There is no other band out there like them and sadly, there will never be another band like them.

David Gilmour~Live at the Royal Albert Hall

I Just finished watched Disc 1 of this DVD and it is AMAZING!
The sound is incredible, the light show is spectacular. Gilmour and company are spot on during this performance. More then one gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.
The first half of the disc is the songs from "On An Island" and I gotta say, I am sold. Beautiful, beautiful music.
The second half of the DVD is more well known songs of Gilmour's and Floyd. There are too many stand outs on this Disc to mention.
This DVD is a must have for any classic rock lover.
This has me in the mood for Floyd. Going to go download some Floyd I have been promising myself. :)

The 7 Ages of Rock~Art Rock

They touched on Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd and his drug induced insanity on the second installment of the 7 Ages of Rock.
They also talked about David Bowie and some other artists I don't recall now.
Check out the clip on The Wall

The 7 Ages of Rock~The Birth of Rock

The 7 Ages of Rock has been airing on VH1 Classic
I enjoyed the 1st two installments, but wasn't too keen on the 3rd one. It was about punk and punk is just not my genre.
The first one was called the Birth of rock and highlighted bands like the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, The Who, and Bob Dylan.
I've never been a fan of Dylan, but they showed him singing a folk version of The House of the Rising Sun that sent shivers down my back. Very soulful. Check it out here.
Keith Ritchards is funny as usual.

Robert Plant's tribute to Jimmy Page

Robert Plant's tribute to Jimmy Page

"Your vision and resolve knows no boundaries, extending beyond the music, inspired and propelled by the great ones.

"Everything and anything has been probable and often possible in your work, always free from the chains of repetition and mediocrity.

"The challenge for me was how to complement your whirlwind contrasts, so many radical twists and turns with such colourful complementary construction, always pushing the limits from the comfort of the bosom to the naked raw edge…"
